Because I can ...

Here's a political statement about George W. Bush's tax refund.

With Congress looking at deficit spending again, I think we can tell that it wasn't necessarily a great idea. Hey, I appreciated the money. And I liked the fact that you didn't get it if you didn't pay taxes (it's no bonus handout for the poor), that it wasn't variable with income (no magic windfall for the rich), and that there were no strings so you could determine your own use for the cash.

Still, that kind of bribe isn't going to make me like Dubya. The body of evidence from his actions in office (as president and governor) isn't exactly compelling. I don't blame him personally for all the wrong in the world. Heck, I never thought too highly of Gore either (after all, you and I both know he didn't invent the internet). But Bush the Younger's always seemed shady to me. As much for his handling of information as his actions. Even subpoenas couldn't force Cheney to be honest about what went on with Enron. Whether it's being involved in a financial fiasco or illicit sex, neither's better when they try to cover it up and dance around the topic.

So while I like the cash, I'm keeping my wait and see approach while hoping some SOUND governing might actually happen instead of a slogan of "big guns, big money".

Can't resist, its an urban legend, I must debunk.

Gore never said it.

"During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet." - Al Gore

Okay, it's only 99% the same, but now that I know what he actually said, that's still ludicrous. The difference between "taking the initiative in creating" and "inventing" is like the difference between merely lame and sucks. Still, I'd rather know what I'm talking about, so thanks for the tip.

*grin* Its still pretty stupid and self-serving.

I just can't resist debunking. I should go to debunkers Anonymous or something. ;)
