It was Silent Sunday today, where neither the parents nor the coaches can say anything. Just clap. It made my game a lot easier to ref. The players were pretty thrilled as well.

But tonight for Mother's Day it was my girlfriend and I, my mom and dad, and my grandmother. She may be my last living grandparent, but she's never been one for tact. So going out with her is sometimes almost like being on handler duty. There's the occasional verbal dance-around-the-topic that happens with certain things. But my grandmother proceeded to begin the evening (as she has at several other family functions) with a vodka martini, and then moved through the rest of the evening in a bit of a haze.

It isn't the lack of understanding I have of her. It's her apparent low level of respect for my parents. That's what bugs me.
