Guitar Brands

Anyone out there play guitar and have some brand recommendations?

I've been considering getting one for a while and I might as well start learning now. Especially considering I finally got done a big project I've had hanging over my head for a while.

I play a Laravee. It's beautiful. It's wonderful. It's definetely a beautiful me-type guitar. But I play folk. Finger-picky stuff that you might want to listen to while getting a back massage or something. Some classical.

Most beginners are pointed toward Yamahas. Nice price range, good guitar, durable, fairly easy-playing.

If you want higher quality, Martin.

If you want electric, ask someone else.

Laravee vs. Martin
Well, I'm definitely all about quality of sound. I've got picky ears. But how does the Laravee companion you've found compare to the Martin? Or is the Martin THAT much more expensive? I'm not exactly laden with cash.

Classical guitar is some of my favorite music to listen to. Beats the hell out of four-guys-a-manager-an-agent-and-a-PR-firm any day. Some of Narada's random selection CDs have introduced me to some good players.

And yes, I did mean acoustic. I should've specified back there.

*pretends to know what she's talking about*
I like light guitar. That's why I love Laravee. It's... me. Martins, as far as I know from playing them for, like, 15 minutes in guitar shops, are heavier guitars. More masculine ;-) I've just always heard them quoted as some of the best around.

My Laravee's thin topped, which creates beautiful sound. It was... 600 dollars, I believe. Pricey... but I take GOOD care of it.

The comparison issue back there was comparing Martin to Yamaha, not Laravee. Laravee's upper midrange. Martin's... probably about the same. My Omi plays a Yamaha... which I like. But I LOVE mine.

Of course... there are tons of other types that I don't know anything about :-)

My first guitar was a classical Goya... and still is. Bink's a beat of piece of crap now, but I had fun. And I learned.
