Rock Band is fun, and today dasquish and I cleared through a bunch more things for his band Death-Pit Punkaceratops. That's right. Death-Pit Punkaceratops. Random selection sometimes creates some of the most awesome band names ever. Anyway, we earned the band security guards, a PR firm and then finally a place in the Rock Band Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Meaning we finished the last meaningful thing you can do on Medium difficulty.

So we kicked it up a notch and took it to Hard difficulty and went song searching. What did we find? Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld. WOW. It was a little rough on guitar and drums, but we got it. Harder still to find was Freezepop's new track, Brainpower. The only way we found to unlock it was to try to complete a 9 song set of songs that we weren't as familiar with (i.e. zero practice at this difficulty and not much prior radio play). It was third and took us about three run-throughs to finally survive. We eventually had to give up on the full set, but just having completed the song unlocked it to choose for a "Pick Your Own Set" option. Thankfully.

But by the end of the night both my forearms hurt from so much guitar. So with (very little) prompting I moved over to drums and dasquish started with vocals. We did make it through more songs on hard (including TIMMY!) and it was a work-out. Seriously. And one of the songs we picked that was great with us two guys as guitar & drums did not work so well with drum & vocals when those vocals are in the high alto range. Drove dazaharia from the room, we did.

That's a full day. 8+ hours of rock with a short break for lunch. Now to go get Muse's Knights of Cydonia out of my head and then do a little reading before bed. Ciao.

PS: If I don't lose my arms I'll be fine, but oh boy is typing this an endurance exercise.

Yeah, me and the vocals are not friends. I think I'll stick to guitar myself.

I think 8 hours of Rock Band is the way to really get into it. Ceri and I were talking yesterday, and we agree that the career mode is cool, but is probably best experienced if you start from the beginning. Trying to jump in part way through a bands career only causes you to lose fans, and I mean A LOT of fans. I don't know if Squish told you about our great '-72,000 fans' debacle. Let's just say it was not good.

Yes, twas awesome. And I now know my limits with vocals: i.e. do NOT try to sing "I'm So Sick" on hard. No matter how warmed up I am, I CANNOT hit the highest of her high notes and I can't find the lower octave version of it. I was glad to really start getting back into the swing of drumming, even if I am having trouble with the 1/8th note kicks on hard. I'll figure that out sooner or later.

And WMTG, as we found out, there is a cap on fans doing medium songs, but it doesn't matter how many you lose either, as long as you earn them back later. Thus it is really no big deal. Medium apparently allows you up to 260,000 fans, and we haven't even approached the limit on hard. I gotta say, Foreplay/Long Time is possibly the best song in that game, as far as being fun to play on drums.

P.S. Pookah: thanks for being awesome enough to save my ass on hard. Couldn't have made it through Brainpower without you, that is for sure.
