The SOSS Invisible Hinges arrived in the mail today, and wmtrainguy worked up a good-looking technical drawing of what the backpack will look like. I'm glad it's really starting to come together. I've got a bunch of other hinges and bits to return to Home Depot and Loew's, but I expect I'll be exchanging for things like wood, stain or sealer.

It's a wooden backpack that is more like a portable gun rack.

It's a little hard to explain, but it's a prop for a costume. Chrono's friend Rosette uses a lot of guns, and it's Chrono who's usually carrying them around. It's definitely impressive looking, so I'm hoping we can get close to that look. From some pictures I saw, it even has an old rotary telephone on the side (since the timeframe is early 20th century). I'll find some pictures of Chrono and the backpack, and perhaps put some up of the backpack when it's done.

the hinges
These hinges look awesome! I was checking the CAD drwaing of them, and it really looks like installation will be a snap. Drill a 3/8" hole at the center of the hinge location, pop a 3/8" bit into the router, and sweep the hole wider. The only real issue will be getting the proper depth, and that should be easy enough to figure out. I'll try and have something done before dinner tomorrow, so we can maybe get a lot of work done this Sunday. I might be optimistic here, but if we can have the bones of the box done this weekend, that leaves us four weeks to work on the finishing touches. Plenty of time to make sure we do it right.
