Yesterday was family birthday catchup day. Yes, my family hadn't celebrated any birthdays yet this year in our usual fashion. So I got some birthday presents yesterday. Granted, I'd already gotten some from my friends but I'll practically never say no to a present. Schedules and the occasional hospital trip had conspired to keep it from happening sooner.

As for me, I'm starting to actually look at the summer as "what should I plan now?" One of the things I think I'll be doing is going to Otakon, the big anime convention held here in Baltimore every summer. It's a blast when I've gone. And with my developing interest in LARP-ing and costumes for the heck of it, I've gotten some interesting suggestions. My wife had originally promised to go dressed up like Lulu from Final Fantasy X, but that didn't work out. So nevermind the thoughts of going as Tidus or Wakka any more ... though I might be able to get my wife to have a fangirl moment before the convention, and that would be priceless.

With all the .Hack stuff that I've gotten into, I'd thought of going as Tsukasa from the TV series or Elk from the games, maybe even Kite if I could bear to wear that much red-orange. I've been told I bear more of a behavioral resemblance to Crim. I guess that's a compliment.

Recently, a coworker told me I could be a dead ringer for Miroku from Inuyasha. An off-the-wall wandering monk from a funny show? Yeah, and I'd also have the least to do to my hair to make it work. He is also known for his wandering hands too, but I don't have to REALLY get into the role! It'd be grounds for a butt-kicking to do the things he does in the show ... besides, he gets slapped for it. Hard. Repeatedly. Maybe a posed one for a picture, but I don't want to walk around the con with a handprint on my face. Though with the right staged makeup, I could mimic such a handprint and get more laughs.

Either way, Otakon is at the end of July and I better get started. I'm not a habitual cosplayer (and some of those people SCARE me) but what the heck. Why not.

If my boyfriend and I end up going I'm going to have to hunt you down. He was originally a gopher(sp?) and was later on staff, but he's not doing that anymore and I believe he's gotten somewhat tired after all these years. But, if you remember a short non-cosplaying heavily bearded dude from your past Otakans, it may have been him. :)

I wanna invite you to my birthday gathering on the 31st of this month. Go to my info. page and text message me, because I don't have ANY contact information for you! :)

Expect a text message soonish. I'm going to try to remember (having failed repeatedly) to message you during daylight hours. If not, pookah at livejournal dot com should work, as a paid member. I expect to be at Otakon for a while Saturday, but if I'm still welcome I'd like to check out the party.

I'll probably change, but if requested I may have the guts to show up in Miroku gear. =)

Showing up in gear would be SO cool. I don't know that character though. :)
