Not quite drowning, not quite burnt

I've been slaving hard at the office ever since I got back from GenCon. Reminds me of something my dad once told me: "You end up working an extra week before and afterwards to take off for a week's vacation." Bleah.

The good news is, we finally got funding on its way. The letter's been approved and signed. I saw it happen yesterday as I happened to be training some of the budget staff. This means we've got a contract, which means I can get a badge instead of having to keep calling people to get signed into the building.

The bad news is that there's so much work that the owner called a special meeting at the office at 7:30 am yesterday to say that he knows we've been working a couple extra hours to keep up. And that he wants us to know that it's not going unnoticed, but that we might have to work a couple more extra hours "for the short term" to keep up with everything because we can't afford to let anything slip. Ick. Having a bit of advance notice of this, I ended up stuck working until 1 am Thursday night to get something done, and I've been at the office today since 1 pm. And I'll be back tomorrow. Double bleah.

It's gotten to the point that my coworkers are noticing, even. Not everybody's stuck like this. But the latest copy of the Friday breakfast rotation features drinks next to everybody's name. Last list featured Dr. Seuss books. This time it was drinks and this was next to mine:

Absolute Stress
1 ounce Malibu Rum
1 ounce Absolut Vodka
1/2 ounce Peach Schnapps
2 ounces Cranberry Juice
1 ounce Pineapple Juice

Pour all liquors in, then add juices. Shake well.

I think that's worth a try, the way life's been going lately. Next weekend I don't get a break, either. Saturday I've already agreed to referee soccer matches, so even then I won't get to relax much, and I'm only not doing Sunday matches if I tell them so. Heck, at this rate I might have to back out of Sunday games to come into the office. I hope not.
